The only realistic way to conserve any resource like rhino horn is, as you say, to allow economics to dictate. Trying to preserve this resource by catching the poachers is a “Walter Mitty” approach – pissing into the wind! The biggest enemy to a successful resolution to this issue is, ironically, the well-meaning “bunny huggers” in rich countries who are unable to differentiate between emotion and sense. Their actions and influence are the biggest barrier to Africa solving this African problem in an African way.
